2017 Easter Exhibition Results

Di-Edwards-SerenityBoth visitor and entry numbers exceeded previous records for the Artists’ Society of Phillip Island’s Easter Exhibition this year. 1166 visitors came along over the weekend to view 192 entries from 57 artists. Sales were also healthy.

Judges Sharyn & David Wemyss-Smith, Directors of the Manyung Gallery Group (Malvern, Mt Eliza and Sorrento) were so impressed with the standard of the work that they have invited some artists to exhibit in their galleries.

 

The judges awarded the following prizes –

Best in Show: Diana Edwards, Serenity, Watercolour ($500, sponsor: Phillip Island RSL)

Best Drawing: Jan Lowe, Hissy the Koala, Scratchboard ($400, sponsor: Bendigo Bank, Cowes)

Highly Commended: Diana Wilson, Shades of Black & White, Charcoal

Best Painting: Ken Griffiths, Interior, Oil ($400, sponsor: Chemmart, Cowes)

Highly Commended: Warren Nichols, Westernport Morning Mist, Oil

Best Other Medium: Margaret Carr, Princess Gum Vest, Textile ($400, sponsors: Turn the Page and Lesla Saraghi).

Highly Commended: Heather Towns, Coastal Scrub, Acrylic

Highly Commended: Shirley Collins, Winter, Textile

Peoples’ Choice: Diana Edwards, Magic Moments, Watercolour ($150, sponsor: Artists’
Society of Phillip Island)

Raffle Prizewinner: Nance Gooderham, Rhyll (original mosaic donated by Heather Fahnle)

Jan Lowe, winner of the Best Drawing award and a new ASPI member, will be running a scratchboard workshop on May 20. Members of the public are also welcome to attend ASPI workshops although places are limited. Details of this and other workshops can be found on the Program page.
