ASPI Textile Artists 150th Mural Presentation

This project began over a year ago based on an idea taken from a Monet tapestry in France. Ours is based on a post card in the Phillip Island Historical Society’s Archives and was launched on World Knitting Day 2017 so we could unveil it in 2018 for the Phillip Island 150th Anniversary.

Knitting volunteers including those from Phillip Island, Wonthaggi, Western Australia and Queensland produced over 10,000 x 5cm squares – exceeding our target of 5,000. A group of 6-12 women in our textile group have dedicated hours and hours of work weekly to this project.

The end result: a 5 metre x 2.5 metre wall hanging will be presented to Bass Coast Shire Council on July 1.
